Twelve months, 20,- Euro Part 10
Didn't I say I'd be painting more in October? Well, it worked out well this time, as I unexpectedly had a bit more time than I originally thought. So I finally managed to finish painting the regiment of mercenaries that I had started so long ago.
Diamachos' mercenary squad is thus complete and brings a coherent picture to the table. From left to right: Glaukos, Patrobos and Sfairon, the experienced peltasts in the posse. Then Diamachos, the fearless leader, and Dromeas, the young and yet inexperienced newcomer among them.
Right now they are intended to be part of my Corinthians, but I've had so much fun with them that I could see myself expanding them into a stand-alone army. As you can see, the minis are all based on Victrix models with a few modifications.
With Glaukos, I cut off the shield arm and replaced it with another that I had previously cut off a javelin thrower. This created a certain dynamic, as if he were ramming the opponent. The Sica as a weapon and the closed helmet gave him a slightly thracian look, so I decided to keep the shield emblem simple and use a Triskele to soften the appearance a bit.
Sfairon, on the other hand, was to come without a shield, because I felt that a somewhat more mixed armament would be more suitable for mercenaries. So I cut a short spear and the hand holding it to size and glued the whole thing on a bit angled. If you want to recreate this, you will also have to scrape off a lot of the inside of the spear so it can be glued to the body better. The ball at the head of the club comes from an Oathmark Goblin, where I had simply removed the fantasy spikes.
But I've also been doing a little assembling this month, and the colossus I got my hands on in September is now shining in all its glory.
I want to use it as a stand-in for the Cyclops once I have the Zeus card set, but it's currently only sold through the Footsore online store directly and that's a bit too expensive for me, including shipping and customs. I think I'll wait until one of the stores finally offers the set. I already have the card set for the Army of Hades, as it was kindly provided to me by Footsore and I will present it in detail by the end of the year.
To give you an impression of how big the animated statue actually is, I have provided you with a comparison picture here.
The plan to put the colossus in a headlock was not quite thought out...
Moneywise I held myself back and am bringing my budget to a whopping 89.17 euros now. I’m getting ready for Christmas I guess…
