White Dwarf #452 March 2020
Earlier this week the March issue (number 452) of White Dwarf arrived. This is the subscription cover, showing a a full artwork scene between the Space Wolves and Thousand Sons lead by Magnus the Red, created by Jaime Martinez.
The regular cover by Kai Lim shows a Space Wolf riding a giant wolf.
Oldhammer Empire Banners
I used to have quite the collection of Warhammer Fantasy Empire miniatures. A total of around 22.000 points and therefore I was quite invested in that topic. I enjoyed input like the great WHFRP sourcebooks like Sigmar's Heirs or lore books, like Uniforms & Heraldry of the Empire or Blood on the Reik.
Return of Warhammer – The Old World
Games Workshop announced in the midth of november that the Old World of Warhammer would return. And this has created an incredible amount of buzz. So far it has been updated with an insight to the new map of the old world.
And so far, we only know, that it is still a lot of time until it returns. At least two or rather three years from now. The setting has been set into relation with Age of Sigmar, as Horus Heresy is with Warhammer 40.000. Interestingly enough the map adds to that theory, as the different coat of arms seen, could point towards a civil war like crisis, like the Time of Three Emperors. A very fitting comparison to the civil war of 40k.
Warhammer World 2020 – Exhibition Centre Part 1
Part of the Warhammer World experience is the exhibition centre, with a large gallery of miniatures, vignettes and battle scenes, across multiple rooms and levels. Some parts of the exhibition are updated multiple times during the year, including guest displays. Reason enough to give it another go and browse the displays, for some close ups. To see additional pictures of these and former exhibits, take a look at my visit to the Exhibition Centre back in 2018.
As before, the exhibition starts with the very early days of the Citadel and Games Workshop works in the first corner of the miniature hall. Among those are some of the very first miniatures and books of the 80s, along with iconic vignettes from the early 90s.
Warhammer World 2020 – Hobby Centre, Gaming Area & Bugmans Bar
Here I am, back in very early 2020, once again in Nottingham and once again at the headquarter of Games Workshop, the Warhammer World. But this time not as part of a gents trip, but on a family vacation and I brought along my wife and daughter. My last visit was in April 2018 during our Salute trip, and the first time I was here was in the late 90s over Easter with my parents.
It's the sunday after Warhammer World Open Day 2020, and even within the last one and a half year a bit has changed at Warhammer World. They moved the Space Marine statue (which has been around for at least 2 decades) from the opposite side of Bugman's Bar balcony to the place next to Rhino, just below the Imperial Aquila.
Did you know that they included the Warhammer World and Games Workshop HQ buildings as an easter egg in a Genestealer Cult miniature? Well, now you know!
The Old World – Goblin Wolfriders
Goblins have always had a somewhat unusual stand at Warhammer Fantasy, and with the announcement of the ominous Old World system we'll be revisiting some of these green fellows from times long past. To be exact, from the year 2002, because in that December a Goblin wolfrider army by Dan Tunbridge could be admired in White Dwarf 276 (issue #275 in the US), which was enough inspiration for me to add some goblins to my then Warhammer Fantasy army.
Christmas Weekender 2019
It's December 2019, only 4 weeks 'til christmas and the year is nearly over. So what's cooking in the remaining weeks until 2020?
Of course the project of Abaddon's Black Legion will continue, as it is the most compact of the Oldhammer / Midhammer / Retroprojects and therefore should be the easiest to finish.
Of Kings, Knights and Halloween on the Black Seas
It is the Halloween weekend and I thought that I had seen a horror-scenario for Black Seas, but I am unable to find it. Anyhow, there is Dreadfleet, of which I used the battle mat from the boxed set already with Cruel Seas.
Dreadfleet was a bit of a surprise back in 2011, when it was released as a stand-alone boxed-set. The rumours lead many to believe, that we would see a re-release of 1993's Man-o-War.
Steam and October White Dwarf
On Friday the current issue (October 2019) of White Dwarf arrived, Warhammer Community already gave it a brief preview on the content. As I have the subscription issue, I have a slightly different cover. This one has a complete cover showing the artwork of the Wrath and Rapture boxed set, that was released last december.
Warcry Ravaged Lands – Shattered Stormvault
With Warcry filling in the fantasy counter-part of Kill Team, Games Workshop supplies the game with their variant of the Killzones called Ravaged Lands. We have covered a couple of those Killzones already on the blog, for example Killzone: Sector Mechanicus and Killzone: Sector Fronteris. And today we cover the first of the Ravaged Lands, the Shattered Stormvault.
