Stargrave – A long time ago on a gaming table far, far away…
I covered my initial rant about StarWars as a tabletop wargaming IP, and where it works and where it does not. And in the mean time, between having ordered 3d printed models for this setting and printed my own as a patreon of Skull Forge Studios, I have narrowed down the rule set(s) and time frame.
As mentioned in the initial post, this is not going to be Star Wars Legions - for multiple reasons - but a skirmish on a troop / squad level and for that, in my opinion among other systems, Stargrave works quite well.
This idea started last year, that prior to me owning a 3d printer on my own, but I already fancied the 3d sculpts by Skull Forge Studios back then. With the models being outside of the patreon around 5-6 USD per sculpt on Gumroad and Wargames3D offering them for 9 to 11 EUR incl. free shipping from Spain via Etsy, I chose to order some. Among others I got myself these:
January 2021 review
Wow, already a month done into 2021! We had the kick-off for the new year, and I could put a lot of energy into the weekends, continuing to sort out the stock. At some point you get to the things, that aren't bulk or quickly free up space, so after going for the overstock of Necromunda Bulkheads, I moved on to the organisers, to see what I'd keep and what would be sold.
Star Wars – A long time ago on a gaming table far, far away
I wrote a couple of times about how well Mandalorian was produced and how much I enjoyed it. It picked up the satisfaction I had with Rogue One, and brushed away the lower excitement I had with the final trilogy. The skirmish battles, the rag-tag crew of individuals, with bounty hunters, scum and rebels, all set in the western and eastern inspired space opera. So I looked into Star Wars on the tabletop.
So far I only had Imperial Assault and X-Wing on my plate, and for that the IP works quite well. A dungeon crawler with two clear sides, good and bad, have your heroes fight squads of Imperial goons and hired guns. And for X-Wing, picking up the Wings of War engine and used it for the sci-fi setting and breaks with one of the major disadvantages of the Star Wars IP for a tabletop wargame, the limited amount of factions.
4th Advent Weekender
I hope you had a solid december so far and can enjoy the upcoming holidays! It's the 4th advent and we're pretty close to Christmas. So let's take a look on what's cooking this weekend.
The new Rohan Buildings seem to be very popular, thus the Stronghold bundle was sold out in no time. I managed to acquire a kit of the town house and the tower / wall segment, that I'll cover in the new year. I am really looking forward to this, as the multipart kit provides a lot of freedom towards your creative needs.
Christmas Weekender 2019
It's December 2019, only 4 weeks 'til christmas and the year is nearly over. So what's cooking in the remaining weeks until 2020?
Of course the project of Abaddon's Black Legion will continue, as it is the most compact of the Oldhammer / Midhammer / Retroprojects and therefore should be the easiest to finish.
Iron giants, iron calves and hovering boats
I saw this picture on facebook, it is a K2SO toy converted by Steve Perry (Rubicon Models UK representative) into a 28mm terrain piece. That would be awesome for all kinds of Sci-Fi settings, from the Ashwastes of Necromunda, over Gates of Antares to Rogue Stars.
Star Wars – Rogue (Trader) One
As it has been a week since the release of Rogue One in the cinema, it seems like a fair point of time to talk about the movie without spoiling anybody or wasting their experience.
Terrain and Star Wars
Aquarium deco pieces are useful if you're looking for something special as a terrain piece. So this buddha statue would be a nice addition for a jungle scenario, like burma, and at 13 Euro quite cheap. So i added a picture with a 28mm miniature, to show the incredible size of that - prepainted - piece.
More Mars Attacks and Spaniards
Mid of the january we continued our painting projects. Flo on his - now enlarged - Mars Attacks collection, and i continued on the spaniards. I've added a few pilgrims as another 1 point selection to my crusaders. Those are perry miniatures codes CU26 and CU27.
Fuel Depot, Skeletons and Snowspeeders
I found this one back at Spiel last year at Micro Art Studios booth. Saw it and thought, that is a must have for a gaming table, and at 16-18 Euro it is reasonably priced.
