Horus Heresy – Solar Auxilia Leman Russ Strike Tank
One of the work horses of the Imperial forces receives an upgrade and proper variant, to distinguish themself from the other departments of the army - the Solar Auxilia Leman Russ Strike Tank!
This is not update or partial sprue swap of the regular Leman Russ Battle Tank but a complete overhaul with the known trim of the Solar Auxilia vehicles and a proper Mars Alpha pattern hull and new vehicle accessories.
Similar to the Malcador chassis, the Leman Russ chassis is used within the Imperium for a lot of different vehicles. You have the Leman Russ himself, as a battle tank, with different weapon systems in turret and hull to provide effective service in certain scenarios, split into the Strike Tank and Assault Tank, but further alterations for example as an Artillery vehicle with the Medusa or Basilisk, prior that these were built upon the chimera chassis. Post heresy further variants were added and many sub-classes of the Leman Russ saw service all across the regiments.
Horus Heresy – Preview on the Solar Auxilia
During the Las Vegas Open Air Games Workshop previewed the release of the Solar Auxilia in plastic - in full scale! We had the chance to toy around with them in the Legions Imperialis scale, and I wrote an introduction on mustering the Solar Auxilia.
The new plastics are up against some pretty well done older models, as the resin models are dynamic and you have a lot of different poses (with no doubles, from my understanding), so it is going to be interesting to see, which options the new plastics will cover. But certainly, they will make it more accessible, as the price for an army that uses (or at least can use) such a huge number of infantry will come down. Regarding the Veletari, I am not sure how big the impact will be there, as the previewed set, does not show the axes and they might be a Forge World upgrade, as we saw with the Astartes in some cases and that stacked up the price quite a bit.
Legions Imperialis – Solar Auxilia Support
The Solar Auxilia Support adds various Bastion detachments to the army, and is the second non-vehicle box after the Solar Auxilia Infantry kit.
This is your typical side-game boxed set, with two identical sprues and a price band of 40 EURs / 30 GBP RRP. In case of the Solar Auxilia Support you receive 40 miniatures / 28 bases (as Games Workshop counts the crew member individually) for your army.
Legions Imperialis – Point values of the 1st wave
As this question was asked more often, a quick overview, where you land with the items from the first wave.
A few things up front
- No, the starter set can not be combined into one large legal army as they Primary and Ally army split is 70/30 of points. There is a special formation for quick starter games, that is not meant for matched play.
- You can mix multiple Astartes Legions into one army, as they don't count into the allied contingent if your primary list is Astartes
- The 30% allied contingent count against anything that is not your primary army list. The Aeronautica units of your primary army are usually air support and don't count against the allied contingent.
Legions Imperialis – Mustering the Solar Auxilia
We showed you how the army building in Legions Imperialis works with the example of an Astartes army. And we want to pick up the idea and build and extend the other half of the starter kit, the Solar Auxilia.
The four steps are the same:
- Declare Allegiance
- Choose Primary Army List
- Assemble Compulsory Formations
- Complete the Army
Legions Imperialis – Aeronautica Imperialis
After talking about the use of Titans in Legions Imperialis and Adeptus Titanicus, we want to take a look on the flyers and air supporting units, that can be used with Legions Imperialis. And while Titanicus is entirely set in the Horus Heresy, Aeronautica Imperialis wasn't, which means not all units and products will return as part of the new extended range of Legions.
What is the biggest change for the Aeronautica boxed sets? Well, the Aeronautica bases will be replaced with new Legions Imperialis flying bases. Unlike Titanicus, Aeronautica didn't provide gaming material with the miniature boxes, the cards etc. were either sold separately or was part of the starter boxes.
And similar to AT, we try to answer a few questions regarding the transition of Aeronautica Imperialis
Legions Imperialis – The Costs of the Garmon Purge
In White Dwarf #493 October 2023 we had the first battle report on Legions Imperialis, incl. the rules of the first supplement The Great Slaughter. We see a battle between the Blood Angels and a Death Guard Army incl. Allies, to show a full battle of 3.000 Points.
As many thought The Great Slaughter would cover the Istvaan atrocity, it was actually the name for the Battle of Beta Garmon, which we had insights in with the Adeptus Titanics supplement of Titan Death. This would make sense, first of all as it is the name of the battle report, it would tie in other branches of the war, but the Death Guard wasn't really involved according to lore.
Legions Imperialis – The Solar Auxilia
The second force within the new Legions Imperialis core set is the Solar Auxilia. Similar to the Legiones Astartes, we have the Infantry set available as part of the first wave. The Baneblade / Hellhammer will be covered in an article of its own.
So today, we will look into the Solar Auxilia Infantry (incl. Charonite Ogryns and Aethon Heavy Sentinels), as well the Leman Russ and Malcador which are currently exclusive to the core set.
Each of boxes cover two identical sprues at a RRP of 40 EUR / 30 GBP. Decals are only included with the vehicle kits. Let's start with the Infantry.
Warhammer The Horus Heresy – Legions Imperialis – Unboxing
It is finally here! We have a large release for Legions Imperialis, battles within the Horus Heresy in an epic scale! And we start with an unboxing of the starter set, covering Legiones Astartes, Solar Auxilia and even two Warhounds.
This will be the initial unboxing, followed by detailed, indepth reviews, as you have seen it in the past for example with the Age of Darkness or Leviathan boxed set. And it is great that we return once again to when I was there the day Horus slew the Emperor.
Horus Heresy – Legions Imperialis
With yesterdays non-40k preview we had an epic teaser and reveal on the return of small scale battles in the Grim Dark future, but not covering 40k but 30k's conflict of the Horus Heresy. The name Epic is dropped and returns as Warhammer The Horus Heresy - Legions Imperialis.
And this means, I am spot on with my Horus Heresy on an epic scale and really looking forward, what the rules and new range brings along.
Games Workshop revealed a rulebook and starter set, which can be either used as a conflict or large army box, covering Space Marines and Solar Auxilia. The poster boys for this release are the death guard.
