Necromunda – Underhive Stock
I started with the hobby in the mid to late 90s in Germany, so a lot of that late Oldhammer to early Middlehammer coined my image of the hobby. Miniatures sculped by the Perry twins, Jes Goodwin and Gary Morley, artwork by Mark Gibbons and Wayne England. So it is no big surprise, that 2nd Edition 40k, Blood Bowl and of course Necromunda really appeal to me.
What is Necromunda about? It is a 28mm skirmish between the street gangs of the bigger Houses on the planet Necromunda, fighting over supply contracts, mines and facilities. And all that in the underground of a megacity (so very 2000 AD) in the Warhammer 40.000 universe. With the character / gang development it even included a narrative part, to tell the story of your own gang, with all the ups and downs that belong to it. And that narrative part is simply the cherry on top of that old school goodness.
Necromunda – Bulkheads
While sorting through the miniatures and getting a feel for the volume, I realised that my actual problem aren't the miniatures (they are mostly 28mm, so that's not that tall, and I don't do mass combat armies) but the terrain. And after going through the boxes and opening up the 4th box (of a few more) with Necromunda Bulkheads in it, it dawned on me that I might went a bit overboard on them.
So my stock went above 200 of these, that's more than I need.
Necromunda – Zone Mortalis Platforms and Stairs
To finalize the review series on the Zone Mortalis, after covering the Columns and Walls as well as the Gang Stronghold, we look closer into the accessoires set - Platforms and Stairs.
With spicy price tag of 50 EUR it is important to know what it brings to the table, literally. We have two different sprues, each two times included in this set. It is important to note, that this is barely a stand-alone and it requires at least the Columns and Walls kit to make the most out of it.
Necromunda – Zone Mortalis Gang Stronghold
The most recent addition to the Zone Mortalis, is the Necromunda Gang Stronghold. Quite the boxed set for the Underhive, giving your gang a spot to hide out, defend and retreat to.
But this is not just a repurposed set of sprues from the Zone Mortalis, but a whole new set of sprues and parts to add to your Zone Mortalis. And not just walls and platforms either at 70 EUR, but two towers (a lookout tower and a water tank) as well.
Necromunda – Zone Mortalis Columns and Walls
While a lot of attention goes towards the new Blood Bowl release, I set up the coverage on the Zone Mortalis terrain range, introduced to support the Necromunda skirmish game.
There were two plastic kits introduced in the beginning, that replaced the massive resin tiles of the same name by Forge World from 2003, the Columns and Walls and the floor tile sets.
Slave Ogryns Mechanics and Pit Slaves
I already talked about the possibilities of this kit in the review on the Slave Ogryn Gang for Necromunda, but now it is time to let some actions follow those words.
These are not the first ogryn sized models within the Warhammer range, and as we how quite the few bits to choose from for some kit bashing it was time to see, what would work.
The most obvious kit to look into would be the Ogryns / Bullgryns kit from the regular 40k range. The heads fit the size, but need a bit of green stuff on the neck, as the connection is different. A fist from the Kastellan Robots could be interesting to mix up the augmented power fists, and with the Slave Ogryns being often pit crew or mechanic, a few tool bits from the Genestealer Cultists or similar items from the Orks (in this case the biker) a good choice as well.
Necromunda – Slave Ogryn Gang
After expansions for the regular houses with special gangers, the latest plastic kit for Necromunda covers the big guys - Slave and Servitor Ogryns. Games Workshop offers these in two variants, as the Jotunn H Grade Servitor Ogryns or as a full Slave Ogryn Gang. And after roughly half a year, after its initial announcement in February 2020, the unit as part of the House of Chains is available.
Ogryns are a new addition to the underhive (if you exclude house rules or experimental rules from the Fanatic magazine and such), but a very fitting one. A lot of the gangs have access to brutes, and what is more brute than an Ogryn? There are two choices, you can either go for a double pack of Servitor Ogryns for 32,50 EUR or the Slave Ogryn Gang of 6 for 65,00 EUR. The pieces are in both cases identical, the double-sprue is simply covered three times in the gang box.
INQ28 – The Mundalorian
I have built and painted this one in 2009, and decided it is time to new pictures. The bounty hunter "Boba" was created for the Inq28 project.
Warhammer World 2020 – Exhibition Centre Part 2
The third part of the coverage on this visit, after covering the Gaming Area, Bugmans Bar, as well as the first part of the exhibition hall, will go for the dark future of Warhammer 40.000. Similar to the first part, this is an addition and update to the coverage from 2018, so you'll find more pictures on these and former exhibits there.
And similar to the Fantasy exhibit, the 40.000 starts early - with some Rogue Trader era goodness and some things that came briefly after that! We have the RTB01 Imperial Space Marines, build and on sprue, along with some amazing scratch build vignettes, covering the final battle between Horus and the Emperor, there were Sanguinus was slain (there is a great poster of that fight from 1990), as well as an Imperial Navy hangar.
White Dwarf in December
Following up on a few goodies in last month, Games Workshop put a couple of freebies into the last issue for 2019 - the december White Dwarf.
If you're issue looks different to mine, that's due to it being the subscription variant with a full artwork cover. Beside that you'll find it in a cardboard sleeve, with a campaign booklet and a strategy card for Necromunda, a profile card for using Gotrek in WarCry and a double sided poster, that covers a wizard mini game on one side and a Space Marine themed action scene on the other.
