Urban planning, Afrikakorps motor pool and the weekend
The Rohan articles got a lot of feedback, and I am pretty amazed by the kits (the houses are great and I just ordered a second palisade kit), so that topic will be further continued / developed.
I have some generic terrain items in my collection, that can be used for almost everything, like boxes and crates. Along with the Renedra kits that I bought, I did a bit of scenes to see how they scale and work with eachother. I guess I have to paint those up fast and take some scenic pictures with Dino's Sword & Sorcery Frostgrave warband. But I'll go into detail on the kits that were used and how they fit in the separate posts.
The Rohan settlement grows
So after collecting a few ideas, I went on to build the remaining kits. If you are planning on "free building", I suggest that you lay out the pieces you intend to use, to get an idea on size as well as the availability of the parts you need.
The reason why I went with the regular build in the review of the Rohan house was, to get an understanding for the kit. The get to know the function and the way how the pieces interact with eachother and what might be a too daring endevour.
Collecting a few ideas on Rohan houses
A bird never flew on one wing, and that's the reason why a single house is not enough for a proper settlement - even a small one. As stated in one of the weekend updates, I added a few further house kits to the stock, to be able to tinker a bit.
Lord of the Rings – Rohan Watchtower & Palisade
The Rohan House wasn't released by it self, but came with a second Rohan terrain kit, the Watchtower and Palisades.
Lord of the Rings – Rohan House
Games Workshop released towards the end of 2019, along with an update for the Middle Earth game system, two new terrain kits for Rohan, a house and a combination of walls and a tower. We'll look into the house today.
Lord of the Rings, Cruel Seas and Light Upgrade
The Rohan reviews for next week are ready, I had the time to tinker on these kit and prepare some scale pictures. Very interesting kits, beyond the fantasy setting. But more on that later.
Weekend Update and January White Dwarf
My vacation is over, work has me back, so the overall output was a bit more relaxed compared to the week before. Last year, when the Rohan buildings were released, I was in touch with Games Workshop, so that I could a larger review on the new buildings. Unfortunately the Stronghold sold out unexpectedly quick and it took a bit of time to find an alternative. Long story short, in addition to the single Rohan House and Palisade & Watchtower kit, a batch of houses arrived from Radaddel. Thanks to both of them, now I can get started.
Because that was the reason, I didn't already do the review. I wanted to cover as much of that multi-purpose awesomeness that I think this kit is. And that will probably take the most time to handle the input and agree in my mind, what I am gonna build from the pieces.
Warhammer World 2020 – Exhibition Centre Part 1
Part of the Warhammer World experience is the exhibition centre, with a large gallery of miniatures, vignettes and battle scenes, across multiple rooms and levels. Some parts of the exhibition are updated multiple times during the year, including guest displays. Reason enough to give it another go and browse the displays, for some close ups. To see additional pictures of these and former exhibits, take a look at my visit to the Exhibition Centre back in 2018.
As before, the exhibition starts with the very early days of the Citadel and Games Workshop works in the first corner of the miniature hall. Among those are some of the very first miniatures and books of the 80s, along with iconic vignettes from the early 90s.
4th Advent Weekender
I hope you had a solid december so far and can enjoy the upcoming holidays! It's the 4th advent and we're pretty close to Christmas. So let's take a look on what's cooking this weekend.
The new Rohan Buildings seem to be very popular, thus the Stronghold bundle was sold out in no time. I managed to acquire a kit of the town house and the tower / wall segment, that I'll cover in the new year. I am really looking forward to this, as the multipart kit provides a lot of freedom towards your creative needs.
A Tour of Hobbiton – Movie Set Tour 2017
This article is for the terrain builders and Lord of the Ring enthusiasts. First proper one about the trip to New Zealand, so enjoy!
After we arrived in Auckland, our first stop along our route through the Northern Island of New Zealand was near Matamata, in Hobbiton. While driving through Waikato we already got the "shire vibe" and half an hour before arriving there, you already knew - this must be the place. It was cloudy at first, but it brightened up during the day.
