Adeptus Titanicus – Legio Astraman Ad Arma Part IV

And we pick up the Legio Astraman for Q2 / 2022 again, I didn't finish them as part of the summer project, but I want to give it another go. New motivation, thanks to a new tool.

I want to start small and work my way up the titan size chart, so I'll pick up the squad of three Warhound titans.

Thunderhawks – Hooo!

Closing the gap on the area between Adeptus Titanicus and Aeronautica Imperialis got a bit easier, with the recent release of Astartes Aircrafts. And among those aircrafts, is one of the most famous flyers the Space Marines have, the mighty Thunderhawk! (Imagine the Thundercats intro ... hooooo!)

Aeronautica Imperialis - Astartes Aircrafts

I have to be honest, the Thunderhawk has a special meaning for me. Beginning with the first Thunderhawk, all metal kit, that was released in the late 90s and I even held that one on my first visit to Warhammer World in 1999. And that particular kit got much more attention this year, when Emil a.k.a. Squidmar got one of these Thunderhawk kits, painted it up and sold it for an impressive 25.600 GBP.

Adeptus Titanicus – Legio Astraman Ad Arma Part II

A brief update on the summer challenge.

Adeptus Titanicus - Legio Astraman and Auxiliaries

The first block are 6 miniatures, I went with two Reaver Titans and four Cerastus Lancers. After thoroughly cleaning mould lines and gaps before priming most of the models, I started with blocking in the base colours. Starting with Army Painter Gun Metal for the metallic parts of the titans.

Adeptus Titanicus – Legio Astraman Ad Arma

It is time to go for another Summer Challenge, 18 miniatures in 3 months. Last year I did an undivided beastman warband "Hooves and Fur" for my Realm of Chaos project.

And as the new challenge is just right around the corner, I'm right in the middle of moving my studio, this simply calls for an Epic Journey Against all Reason and Sanity.

Adeptus Titanicus – Mechanicum Cerastus Knight Atrapos

A second type of Mechanicum Knights can be found among the Cerastus Class, the Cerastus Knight Atrapos. Adding not only a new option for the Mechanicum in Adeptus Titanicus next to the Questoris Styrix and Magaera, but adding a fourth class of Cerastus after the Lancer, Acheron and Castigator.

Adeptus Titanicus - Mechanicus Cerastus Knight Atrapos

As you can see from the box, this is a Forge World release and this comes with a few differences compared the "regular" Adeptus Titanicus range. Major point is, that these are only available directly through Forge World, so you have to order them either at Forge World directly or at a Games Workshop events (and at Warhammer World). With Games Workshop and Forge World still adapting to the current situation, it may take a while for these kits to be delivered and they may be out of stock from time to time. But Forge World is customer orientated, so shipping towards Europe is 12 EUR flat and free if you order for more than 90 EUR, and a really convenient service is that their orders are shipped DDP (delivery duty paid, so you don't have to pay customs or service charges). At a price of 50 EUR for the pair of Cerastus Knight Atrapos you're already half way there for free shipping. Another difference with these compared to other kits from the Adeptus Titanicus range, the Atrapos are cast from resin and not injection mould plastic or finecast. But more on that further below.

Mustering Legio Astraman

With the recent Warmaster Titan build for Adeptus Titanicus, my urge to paint something was rekindled. But to be honest, with the big move ahead, a larger project (in terms of more miniatures) wouldn't be the sensible choice now.

Adeptus Titanicus - Legio Astraman Maniple

I went once again through my collection of Adeptus Titanicus models and split them into two maniples, this one being the loyal one, covering the following models.

Adeptus Titanicus – Warmaster Titan with Plasma Destructors

Move to the side Warlord Titans, there is a new, heavier battle titan around - the Warmaster Titan! The new class of titans for Adeptus Titanicus was announced in the online preview in late January of this year, and now finally available.

Adeptus Titanicus - Warmaster Titan with Plasma Destructors

So far, the Warlord marked the heaviest of the available battle titans for the game, and was only outclassed by the even larger Emperor Class Titan, which was covered in the lore but not released for the more recent iterations of Epic nor Adeptus Titanicus. The Warmaster is a new addition to the lore of Warhammer 40.000 (or 30.000 / Horus Heresy) and is based upon old artwork by Jes Goodwin. Back in the day, this was "just" an early sketch of a Warlord Titan, but with a different design than the "beetle back" models. But as there were multiple designs and variants of the titans, in a rather "fluid" state of lore, this is the perfect base for a new class of titan. The Warmaster picked up quite a lot of the design elements, but more on that below.

April 2021 review

We managed to raise ~510 EUR for cancer research in April with the sale of Warhammer Underworlds and Kill Team promos, as that would be an odd number, I rounded it up to 550 EUR and donated the money yesterday morning to the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg.

There are still a "few" tokens, cards and dice left, so if you want to join in on the May pot (and don't mind the german language on some of the items), get in touch with me.

Warlords on the March – Warmasters sighted

Last weekend, Games Workshop did another online preview, covering a few teasers and sneak peaks into the novelties of the upcoming year. I am pretty sure that if you were on social media the last few days, you got bombed with repeated, repeated and repeated again posts of from that stream.

When I ordered the Wargames Illustrated with the ACW sprue from Drachental, I took a look on their webshop and sales, and noted a Warlord Titan in there. So I ordered that one with the magazine. And wouldn't that be a great task, to assemble my third Warlord Titan while watching the stream?

Adeptus Titanicus – Mechanicum Questoris Knights Styrix and Magaera

Towards the end of the year we see a new release of Mechanicum Knights by Forge World. Along the regular Questoris Knights (and later upgraded kit) two new classes enter the epic sized battlefield of the Horus Heresy - the Questoris Knights Styrix and Questoris Knights Magaera.

Adeptus Titanicus - Mechanicum Questoris Knights Styrix and Magaera

These being Forge World releases, this means a few differences towards the regular Adeptus Titanicus range. Most present is the direct only availability, as Forge World is only sold through Forge World themself or at Games Workshop events (and at Warhammer World). But they overhauled their shipping costs, making availability through their online shop quite a bit more affordable. And the second difference compared to Games Workshops main range they are cast from resin and not injection mould plastic or finecast. But more on that further below.
