Age of Sigmar – Kruleboyz Swampcalla Shaman with Pot-grot
In issue 09 of the Stormbringer subscription, we get one of the first characters for the Kruleboyz, a Swampcalla Shaman with Pot-grot.
This miniature was initially released as part of the Age of Sigmar Dominion boxed set (the 3rd edition starter set from 2021), just like the Lord Imperarant, and now is available through the Stormbringer magazine for 10,99 EUR or from Games Workshop directly for 32,50 EUR.
Both miniatures fit inside a single sprue, and are currently the only regular sculpts for this unit on foot (the other one being the named character Gobsprakk on Killabeak, and Mugruk da Watcha, which was a 2022 event exclusive).
Issue number 9 covers the assembly instructions, painting tutorials and warscrolls for the shaman with his side kick.
It is important to point out, as these were part of the Dominion starter set, they are not the regular multipart plastic miniatures, but rather push fit. I would highly recommend using glue anyway and removing the pins for a cleaner finish. The way the recreated the clothes of the Swampcalla Shaman is quite impressive in plastic, as they worked with multiple layers to stack ontop of eachother. The shaman sits on a 40mm round base.
The companion, a pot-grot, stands on a 25mm round base and is a push-fit model as well. Make sure to remove the mould lines from the various details, before you assemble it, as it will be difficult to reach them afterwards. Another cleverly layered miniature, for a solid amount of detail.
Conclusion
A great design with a fitting pose for the duo. They really managed to put a lot of detail into these. Anyhow, still having a bit of a problem with the price tag of 32,50 EUR - even if it's 1,5 miniatures. Around 18 EUR would be more reasonable and as such the price from the Stormbringer magazine is proper.
Orks, or now Orruks, having some lesser assistant, like other factions have their familiars, is a long tradition within Warhammer and it is nice to see that they picked up on that idea with the Kruleboyz.
Assembly was straight forward, but make sure to file down the pins, as these might get stuck during your dry run to see if everything fits. I would remove them completely and simple assemble the miniatures the classic way with plastic glue.
