Stargrave – Even more Sci-Fi goodies

As Miniaturicum is a not only distributor but very often on board with the Nickstarters, I had the chance to pledge to the starter and get some freebies, along with a few blister packs for review purposes to show you. This was a while back and simply got swamped in the backlog, but here it is.

  • SGV101 Biomorphs
  • SGV115 Veterans
  • SGV205 Specialist Soldier Medics
  • SGV201 Specialist Soldiers Hacker / Codebreaker
  • some loots from the first Nickstarter - Loot markers, D20 and a Rogue

The miniatures are cast in metal and usually single pieces. They do not have tabs or small "hills" on their feet, but are "barefoot", so you can freely put them on the bases you intend. Each blister comes with a matching number of 25mm round bases by Renedra, and each pack is 7 GBP (around 8,50 EUR on the European market).

The Veterans are a duo of heavily armed sci-fi soldiers, perfect for hunting aliens or military operations. Veterans are not a class by themself, but can fulfill various roles from the crew roster, along with being a choice for your captain or first mate slot (as Veteran is a chooseable background), beyond that you can most easily use them as Troopers or Commandos.

The Hacker / Codebreaker blister covers a human and a bi-pedal insectoid, who perfectly fit the two Specialist Soldier roles from the core rule set.

Another Specialist Soldier blister pack that directly fulfills the role of their name - Medics. I like the aspect, that you have not-directly combatants in your crew as well.

While these are Biomorphs, and as such a background for your captain or first mate, these could be Mystics or Psionicist as well, or with the addition of fitting weapon bits (for example from the plastic kits) be used as Specialist Soldiers.

The only miniatures with tabs / small bases directly connected are from the former Rogue Stars range. All the miniatures are proper 28mm heroic scale and very different, to properly cover a rag-tag sci-fi crew.

As we covered the plastic kits of the Crew, Troopers and Mercenaries, as well, we have a brief scale comparison with Games Workshops 2000s to 2010s range. The newer 32mm+ plastics by Citadel will not properly mix with this.

Stargrave - Crew Stargrave - More Characters

Depending on how much you value certain poses, you can build a Stargrave warband quite cheap. A plastic kit will provide you with 20 soldiers for around 20 GBP / 25 EURs, and if you're not to clingy with WYSIWYG you can pretty much build most of the roles from the crew roster. The best value is probably splitting the plastic boxes with somebody and swapping half of the content, and then add one or two blister packs for your captain or certain more specialist roles. And even that, will keep your invest - without the rules - below 35 to 40 EUR for about 22 to 24 miniatures.

As the plastic kits are kept in the same scale as other plastics by / for Osprey, you could mix them with various Frostgrave kits and go very exotic, as the Stargrave sprues have a surplus of arms and gear, throw in a distinctive character to command your crew and you're good to go.

Stargrave is a brand of North Star Figures and Osprey Games.
