Age of Sigmar – Kruleboyz Da Kunnin Krew
Another former Underworlds warband released as part of the Stormbringer subscription is Da Kunnin Krew in issue 18. Over the entire run, we will see a total of 7 former Underworlds sets being re-released - all without the cards.
The Kruleboyz warband was initially part of the 2021 season Harrowdeep and a year later re-released in Rivals of Harrowdeep with Nethermaze, against Xandire's Truthseekers. Their rules for the use within Age of Sigmar were available for download through the Warhammer Community, but those got lost - like many other files - when they redesigned the website. In White Dwarf #477, June 2022, the Warcry rules for them were released.
In their initial release, the plastic was tinted green, as it is custom with Underworlds, so you can identify them prior to painting.
These push-fit miniatures come with pre-sculpted bases within their sprue, and are meant to simply be assembled by putting / pushing the parts into each other. Anyhow, I highly recommend removing the pins and using glue, as the push methods often leaves small gaps.
The warband is build from a ragtag collection of orruks, grots and hobgrots, five in total.
We start with Mannok da Kunnin', a Breaka-Boss of the Grinnin' Blades. While the model looks quite interesting, the cage over his head is quite the challenge, not only during the build, but especially when later painting him. Therefore I cut the pieces in a way, that would allow me to paint him and add the cage in a later step.
On his side is another Orruk, Torka, who is armed with a mansnappa and a thick leather coat.
Krookgrin is a Hobgrot, and armed with a Krule Dagger and Firebombs. Pretty easy build, as he is only three parts and a base.
The lowest of the Krew are two grots, Gikkit, who attacks his enemies with a ball and chain, to slow them down and capture them.
And Shank carries a net, to tangle his victims and give the others a better chance in fighting them.
The new Orruks became quite tall as you can see in comparison with the regular Kruleboyz and an old Orc.
Characterful set, with a certainly a devious look.
Conclusion
When you can get your hands on these for the Stormbringer pricing, they are a good addition to your warband. But at a full price of 35 EURs, I'd rather suggest looking at the Warcry warbands, like the Monsta-Killaz, who provide a few more miniatures for just 10 bucks more. Some of the design choices are a bit wild, as they are hard to nearly impossible to paint once assembled (head in cage...). A bit of a weird choice for something that is aimed at newcomers to the hobby / an entry level product.
I like the narrative, that this is a mixed greenskin warband, with different types of Orruks and the hunting aspect surely gives you a set of miniatures, that would work with further skirmishes or miniature roleplaying games.
The single Underworlds warband is OOP, but you can currently pick them up as part of the Brutes & Bandits bundle for 80 EUR.
