January 2025 review
Welcome to 2025 and we're doing a recap on January!
The year started directly with a gaming event, Dino and I went to ScenarioCon in Hackenheim. I managed to play quite a few games, tried out Fallout Wasteland Warfare, a home brew horror game about Jack the Ripper and All That'Z Left.
The beginning of the year was quite intense, as I had to prepare three reviews for Horus Heresy, covering the Arvus Lighter and two heavy tanks, Malcador Infernus and Valdor Tank Destroyer, for the Solar Auxilia. And earlier in January we even did a Medusa/Basilisk double feature, covering them in both scales, Legions Imperialis and Horus Heresy.
Games Workshops sent me the second Deredeo weapon load out as well, but as I covered the Deredeo (Anvilus Configuration) already, I'll move the detailled review on in a bundle with an Imperial Fists themed week, where I'll do the Leviathan as well.
And I invested a lot of time to reduce the drafts in the back end, planned a lot a head, preparing articles, completing some ideas and such. So drafts went down from around 150 to 125, and there's content scheduled for some weeks ahead. Feels good!
January had a double delivery of Stormbringer, as my shipment #9 didn't make it into the first wave and was delivered after the holidays. So we had a lot of sprues, plastics and paints with a double tap of the subscription, with shipment #9 for issues 44 to 49 and shipment #10 with Issues 50 to 55.
Last wednesday Florian / Celebration Parallax dropped off some of the items printed on the Bambu Lab A1 for our DethWizards table at the next CONflict. We printed a "small" town with the Briarwood sets by Dark Realms Forge. And in addition, for my Blood Bowl project, I had the Wooden Bleachers printed by Kraken 3d Studios. While I am familiar with the clean up of resin prints, doing the same for FDM prints, was a new experience.
Between the holidays I build the 73539 R2D2 and 75398 C3PO, both went quite quick, and while I like the few options R2D2 comes with (a few tool arrays), the C3PO build could have covered a bit more, like the red arm, a non-silver leg or the B1-droid head. Anyhow on rebrickable you'll find a matching base for R2D2 to combine with the C3PO stand.
During the paint weekend I was remembered again that I have my trouble with some brush shapes, as they get uncomfortable in longer paint session and I was looking for these grip aids, but never found them at reasonable prices (online shipping is three or four times their value) and I had trouble finding a local retailler who had some in stock, but while I was restocking on glue (and my go to is the Revell Contacta bottles) I found these at Mueller for about an euro each and bought them.
I am currently a bit stuck on Legacies of Betrayal from the Horus Heresy audiobooks, as I didn't had the chance to really listen to these.
Regarding february, no events scheduled for that. There will be reviews, mostly fantasy related, and preparation / continued work on some of the items shown above.
