Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Magazine 50 to 55
We have reached the 10th shipment of the German Stormbringer Magazine by Hachette, not only covering the issues 50 to 55, but the third premium add-on as well. Due to the split of the last shipment, some of you might get two boxes filled with miniatures within only 10 days. That is something!
With this set of six issues, we receive mostly paints and character models, but let us take a closer look.
As usual, you can find an overview on the issues so far over here, along with the detailed unboxings of older shipments as well:
- Stormbringer issues 01 to 03
- Stormbringer issues 04 to 07
- Stormbringer issues 08 to 13
- Stormbringer issues 14 to 19
- Stormbringer issues 20 to 25
- Stormbringer issues 26 to 31
- Stormbringer issues 32 to 37
- Stormbringer issues 38 to 43
- Stormbringer issues 44 to 49
For the subscribers no surprises here. All the printed pages come on a single block, with single page as a foldable beneath. The miniatures and extra content is bagged individually. Along with another bag, covering all the premium content, with a proper warband of Kharadron Overlords. The foldable page covers a map of the Realm of Light, Hysh, and shows us the Ymetrican Geosegment.
The new year began, on 01.01.25 with issue #50, which provided paints and a tool. We do not only get a layer colour Dawnstone, but a texture paint Technical Aggrelan Earth, for which the Texture Spreader tool is added, to avoid damaging your brushes.
For a paint issue, we get a good saving, as the paint pots are at 9,90 EUR (6,30 EUR for the technical + 3,60 EUR for the layer paint), but the 8,25 EUR the texture spreader move us above the face value of the magazine. Yes, you don't need that tool, especially not at 8 EURs, as you could easily use a tooth pick, old flathead screwdriver or brush.
The magazine it self is quite interesting, as they cover base decoration, but not only using the technical paint, but putting some of the spare parts / not used bits from the builds so far to use. And that is proper hobbying there.
On 08.01.25 we get the hero for the squig hoppas, Loonboss on Giant Cave Squig, in Issue #51.
This character is meant to lead the Mangler Squigs, Squig Hoppers or Boingrot Bounderz, and comes in a single sprue along with a 40mm round base. The RRP of 34 EUR, so we get it through the magazine for roughly 33%. That is a bargain.
Obviously the magazine is focused on that character, build, painting and quite the amount on lore as well as rules for Age of Sigmar. And he can be used for the Sneaky Skraps in Warcry.
The next issue, #52, from 15.01.25, gives us another character, starting the releases for the Kharadron Overlords, an Endrinmaster with Dirigible Suit.
Just like the Loonboss, we have a small character sprue here, with a 40mm round bases and a RRP of 34 EUR, so once again pretty nice savings. As this is a flying model, we get some of the flying stands with it.
The steampunk dwarf faction for Age of Sigmar gets a deeper introduction, so we understand who they are and what makes them unique. They were among the first rebranded armies after the Stormcast Eternals in the new Age of Sigmar setting.
With Issue #53 coming 22.01.25, we get once again paints, Ogryn Camo and Stormhost Silver, both Citadel Layer paints.
This is an issue, where you pay more than you actually receive. Ogryn Camo is 3,60 EUR and for some reason the metallic Stormhost Silver is 4,80 EUR for the same amount, adding up to 8,40 EUR towards the 10,99 EUR for the issue itself.
As we don't have new miniatures, we don't get assembly instruction in this one, but more lore on the factions, primarely the Realm of Light and chaos cults. Yet, the paints are put to used and we get some info on edge highlighting.
With issue #54, we get the only unit in this shipment, the Sneaky Snufflers.
These are a special unit within the Gloomspite Gitz, and kind of an aggressive truffle pig as a squig within this army. I was a bit surprised, as I thought these would be a medium sized sprue with a few options, but the six models are actually two sets of the same sprue covering three miniatures each. We get a few options / variable for the build, but nothing too fancy. The RRP of this set is 35 EURs and they are currently mail-order only, which makes them a good deal at 10,99 EUR.
The issue itself provides far more than I had expected, because it does not just cover the assembly, painting and rules, but lore on the Nurgle faction of chaos, along with markers for the game play. And this unit can be used with Warcry as well.
The last issue of this shipment, #55, comes with terrain. We get a sprue of the Realmscape Domicile Shell.
This is a neat building corner, with proper coverage and foot print. A large sprue with heavy pieces. It is currently not availabe anymore, as it was part of the Realmscape terrain range, and the last set it was part of is the expansion set for one of the old dominion starters. The design was picked up again skaventide, but in a corrupted way. That's making the price comparison a bit difficult. But this single sprue would probably be around 20-25 EURs, so the savings again are quite decent as the get at least 50% off.
The magazine itself provides us with the usual content, assembly and painting, along with a spread of various lore information, among others for the Kharadron Overlords.
The third premium package provides us not with a single large miniature, but a warband of Grundstok Gunhauler, Aetheric Navigator and 3 Skywardens. For this you had to pay +2 EUR per magazine, adding the total costs for this to 36 EURs (for the 18 magazines since Gordrakk), but providing us with a combined RRP of 118 EUR. Proper saving and a good start point, if you add the hero from issue 52, as well as the former Underworlds warband, Thundrik Profiteers, coming in issue 56. Add the spearhead from the faction to this and you are really set for Age of Sigmar.
This package spread across multiple sprues, we get a small character sprue for the Aetheric Navigator, along with a 32mm round base.
The Grundstok Gunhauler is spread across two medium sized sprues and comes with an oval base (105x70mm) and flying stem. Please note, this is the smallest of the three air ships of the Overlords and not to be confused with the Frigate.
The unit of three Skyriggers, who can be build as Skywardens as well, comes with three 32mm round bases and flying stems.
The premium issue of course gives you all the information on the three units, building, painting and the rules for their use in Age of Sigmar.
These six issues of Age of Sigmar Stormbringer cost us 65,94 EUR (plus another 12 EUR for the premium upgrade) and we got minimatures with a RRP of around 150 EUR. As mentioned the value of the premium pack #3 is 118 EUR, for a 36 EUR upgrade. Overall pretty good savings and you can easily split the entire Kharadron Overlords factions, just like the Sylvaneth in the last shipment, with a friend.
