Deth Wizards – Necromancy!

After setting the tone for Deth Wizards in the last article, I started collecting the pieces and fitting bases from the drawers and boxes, and went for all round bases, as I want to use them with my other fantasy miniatures, like the Beastmen. With the more heroic characters on 32mm round bases and the regular rank and files Johnny Undies on 25mm round bases.

As the spirit hosts don't have slots and were intended to be put upon 40mm squares with multiple miniatures, but we're going for single bases. As their pins provide a strong connection to the base, I simply drilled through the casting spot on the base.

And that looks pretty slick, but it is funny to see how different the tone on the metal is. The spirit hosts were from a later edition and much lighter, than the mid-90s ghouls pewter mixture.

While I was looking for the push-fit Skeleton Warriors I got from HANS!, but couldn't find them, but I had a good fall back, my stock of undead infantry from the The Old World Khemri starter set. I build two sets of four skeletons (more than I'd need for Deth Wizards, but these are not going to be used just with this ruleset) half of them with spears, and the other half with hand weapons. As I didn't have the right shields, just the Khemri ones and those wouldn't fit the style, but Dino helped me out and gave me a nice spread of historical shields, to go with them.

And while the warband is led by the necromant, we have a kind of champion with Krell. He goes to on a 32mm round base, but should I put him on the heroic stone or not?

I gave a spread on the background of the undeads with the Tomb Kings release, and for this project I grabbed the army books from 4th and 5th edition, as well as White Dwarf #211 (July 1997), as that one had tons of content on the undead, including a painting tutorial.

Interesting to see how the colour palette of the undead shifted from 4th to 5th edition, a lot less of the purple and reds, and into very dark tones and black. Just look that side by side of Heinrich Kemmler. And I love the Zombie Dragon, glad that that one is in my collection. As for the Zombie, that is the inspiration for the undead shamblers in this warband.

Next up final check up for mould lines, then adding sand to the bases and have the lot primed.
