Star Wars Shatterpoint – Maintenance Bay Terrain Pack
A fine addition to the Shatterpoint terrain series is the Maintenance Bay Terrain Pack, which was released in the second half of 2024 and we're looking into it today.
The large boxed set has a RRP of 84,99 USD / 85 EUR, but prices vary online. The Maintenance Bay covers an Outer Rim Garage and a womprat and is produced by Asmodee / Atomic Mass Games.
While it part of the Shatterpoint range (a 40mm scale skirmish) it is a bit taller than the platoon level 1:48 / 32-35mm scale of Star Wars Legions, but still can be used with games down to 32mm heroic scale, but we will see into that further below.
As usual with the Asmodee terrain kits, we get a printed outer card board box with an inner "frame" of corrugated card board, to protect the products inside. All the sprues are packed within a ziplock bag, and there is a coloured "Read This First" sheet in Englisch, French, German, Polish and Spanish, directing you to the assembly instructions. You'll find find these online for free, as they are not part of the boxed set.
The Maintance Bay / Outer Rim Garage is build from five sprues, quite a lot of pieces and large ones among them as well. And even as these are large casts, they have no to minimal warpage, which can be an issue with larger pieces. Casting itself is quite clean, with sharp details and minor to none mould lines.
I experienced that not every plastic glue bonds the material used by Asmodee properly. I usually use Revell Contacta, but in this case went with Pattex Special Glue for model building.
We start with building the main part of the bay, a trapezoidal structure with a door and various additions, like cables, power lines and a roof top with grid structure, that allows the walkways from the other sets, like the Highground Terrain Pack, to connect to. Due to the size of the pieces and that you want to have the glue settle at once, I used tape to hold them in place.
The right side of the structure has a small tower, which is interestingly cut to provide a properly sculpted surface, without the disadvantages of injection moulding (speaking of undercuts).
There is a sensor / antenna array added to the top of that tower. Don't worry about mixing the antennas, they are shape-coded on the bottom. Quite a clever idea to ensure those steps are in order. As that part of the building is done, we can add the base plate, which slides underneath until a fixed position.
You could modifiy this plate and make the driveway inside the maintenance bay a bit wider, but that would require a bit of scratch building.
Next up is the second wall of the maintenance bay and I decided to magnetize the optional "cupboard doors". I added magnets to the inside of the wall piece as well as the doors, and by that I can - depending on the scenario I want to play, don't use them, close them or have them angled like in the last shot, to show that they were opened. Just make sure to add those magnets, before you close the wall section.
That side has antennas and sensors as well, which are added to the top part to add further detail.
Of course you would need a servo-arm in a garage and this one can be moved along side the rails, if you don't intend to glue it in a fixed spot. Nice and stable build. Having the arm posable would be the full nine yards, but it is reasonable decision to do it they way did it.
This wall section is now added to the plate and two optional parts (a ladder and a walkway) that can rather freely be placed on to the build are added.
And last but not least, this set includes another critter with the wamp rat, after we got a bird in the high ground kit, a loth cat in the core box and gonk in the Take Cover! set.
As mentioned, in terms of scale you can use these buildings not only for Shatterpoint but easily for Legions as well, and other Sci-Fi Settings with taller miniatures (or at least higher bases) as well.
The drive-in of the outer rim garage is medium wide, you can fit smaller vehicles like the LRD truck by Squamos / David Sheff Models in there, but not tanks like the TX-225. But for skirmish games like shatterpoint absolutely fitting.
Conclusion
I really like the design of this terrain pack. Not just another set of ruins, but a proper point of interest, and with quite a foot print. As the prices vary strongly (found it as low as 60 EURup to 90 EUR as well), I think that a pricing of 60-70 EUR fits the kit more reasonable than 85+.
There was little clean up necessary for the pieces, as we had next to no mould lines, only the areas were the inidividual parts were connected to the sprue needed attentation. And all of it fit very well together, just take your time with the larger pieces to properly align them while the glue bonds. But that has nothing to do with the product quality and is simply owed by the size of the pieces.
Interesting terrain set that will fit many different settings within Star Wars, I can see it very clean as part of a base, but as well covered with scrap pieces and graffiti. Giving you the opportunity to add some easter eggs like Sabine Wren was here.

Thanks so much for the tip of Pattex > Revell Contacta! Saved my nerves when I assembled my Shatterpoint core set 😀
