Adeptus Titanicus – Legio Astraman Ad Arma Pt. XV
The bases for all of the remaining Legio Astraman were designed, just two more miniatures to build - the Warhound Scout Titans. I looked upon the once I already build, three of them, unfortunately with fixed weaponry. Something that I want to take care of with these two and add further variation.
I used some of the traitor panels and removed the additional spikes / stylized chaos stars, and as I wanted more dynamic poses, I cut the aligners from the hip sections for a more flexible position on my warhounds.
So I laid out the parts, including the base and some spare parts for the feet, as I had a kitbash in mind, but have to see where it takes me.
Actually, if you angle the outsides of the groin piece of the Warhound, you can build an even more dynamic / hunting pose. I will do that with the more menacing Legio Magna models I think, but beyond that it is funny to see how big the feet look if the legs don't have their armour panels attached.
But as I said, I wanted to do magnets on these and I started by drilling with a 3mm bit into the lower part of the arms. If you mark the middle with a hobby knife, it is easier to stay centered. I added a 3 by 1mm magnet to that slot, added a drop of superglue and smoothed out the edges with a file.
Now you just have to add a magnet to the weapons, which is easier than I though. Actually the second batch of weapons, that was released with Legions Imperialis, has pre-drilled holes (just a notch to small) and makes it much easier to handle. If you move the magnets position (i.e. drill the hole at a different position in the "bowl") you will have angled weapons, which makes sense in some cases like the flamers.
Just like that, I have fully swap-able Warhound weaponry. Have to say, I thought this would have been more work.
And as I managed to loose one of the arms while drilling (it dropped and it rolled somewhere, never to be found), so I printed a replacement part, that conveniently already had a slot for the magnet stamped out. Currently I am thinking about retro fitting these arms on the already painted Warhounds. And in hindsight, maybe it is time to get a jewelers apron or something, as loosing a bit is rather frustrating.
As I had some room left on my print bed, I printed some toes for the Dire Wolves as well, as I intend to replace their chicken feet. I am not entirely sure which way to go. Poom and The Forge Temple did this surgery first and I think it makes the Chicken Walker fit in better with the other Warhound titans.
I now have the spare plastic feet, as well as individual toes of the Warhounds, and I'm not entirely sure if I do a complete swap or just replace the narrow tows.
What do you think?
