Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Magazine 32 to 37
On Friday, August 30th of 2024, the 7th package of the german Stormbringer magazine by Hachette arrived, covering the issues 32 to 37. With this shipment we get the second bigger premium content out of four, along with a shift of the Stormbringer content away from the Stormcast Eternals vs. Kruleboyz towards some of the other factions of Age of Sigmar.
You can find an overview on the issues so far over here, along with the detailed unboxings of older shipments as well:
- Stormbringer issues 01 to 03
- Stormbringer issues 04 to 07
- Stormbringer issues 08 to 13
- Stormbringer issues 14 to 19
- Stormbringer issues 20 to 25
- Stormbringer issues 26 to 31
As a subscriber you get the pages for the binder in a single block, and the miniatures and further content in individual bags. The premium content, in this case two - for regular subscribers the Commerative Series Kruleboyz Boss Haggok, and for premium subscribers in addition Gordrakk, the Fist of Gork - are bagged individually, and will be covered further below after the "regular" content.
Two pages are larger fold-out variants, covering the undead as well as the pantheon of chaos, and are added separately to the big block.
The first issue of this shipment, #32, was released last wednesday on August 28th and covers the Gloomspite Gitz Grots, that can be build either as Shootas or Stabbas.
There are two sprues to this unit and they sum up to a total of 20 warriors, with a lot of options, as you can not only give them hand weapons, spears and even bows, but they come with enough parts to build command miniatures (banner bearer, musician and champion) along with two netters. The RRP of this unit is 35 EUR, which is pretty cheap on its own and with the magazines further discount, this is quite the banger. All of the Grots are based upon 25mm round bases.
The magazine focuses on the Shootas, but you can obviously build them in other ways as well (or split them, depending on your unit size). Beyond that you get further introduction on the Gloomspite Gitz, which comes in handy as one of the next issues gives you another character.
In Issue #33 of September 4th, you will find a Knight-Judicator with Gryph-Hounds.
The model is spread across two small sprues, comes with a 90mm oval base, and 2x 40mm round bases, and is actually 3 models, as the Knight-Judicator has two Gryph-Hound companions. The RRP of 31,50 EUR is set quite high, but once again with the magazines price of 10,99 EUR it is quite reasonable. For a hero the oval base is rather unusual, especially as he is on foot and not mounted.
As we had already quite a lot insight on the Stormcast Eternals, the issue only covers the assembly and painting of the Knight Judicator, but beyond that focuses on the Khorne part of the Chaos pantheon along with further rules and strategy hints.
With Issue #34 from September 11th, we get another duo of paints, Citadel Base Incubi Darkness and Shade Nuln Oil.
The two paint pots add to a value of 9,90 EUR, while the magazine costs 10,99 EUR, and we have "negative" savings as usual with the paint issues, but across the shipment this is more than balanced out.
As you would expect, this issue gives you a proper idea on how to use the very versatile Nuln Oil, and they continue on the lore of the Gloomspite Gitz. Love the name tables, we have seen something like that in Kill Team.
In issue #35, which will be released on september 18th, we get the first Sylvaneth and even a character - Druanti the Arch-Revenant.
This is a regular character sprue, with a 40mm round base at RRP of 34 EUR. Solid savings. Unfortunately this is from the era, where they didn't add any options to the heroes and you get a monopose.
The magazine gives you an insight on the Sylvaneth, an Aelves faction, that is a successor to the Wood Elves of the Old Times, along with the usual instructions on assembly, painting and use within the game.
In issue #36 of september 25 we get another character, this time for the Moonclan - the Fungoid Cave-Shaman Snazzgar Stinkmullett.
Just like Druanti, this is a monopose hero with a single small sprue without option. The model is build as seen and has a RRP 34 EUR as well. He comes with a smaller 32mm round base.
The Moonclan part of the Gloomspite Gitz is further introduced, along with the entertaining "chaos" and unreliable aspects they bring into the game. In addition this issue covers bataillons for Age of Sigmar, specific combination of unit types who give you one or more bonuses for using them.
The last issue #37 of this shipment, will be available on october 2nd for the general public and includes Yltari's Guardians and a Synthetic Drybrush.
Ylthari's Guardians are an Underworld warband from the Nightvault Season, which we reviewed here in 2019. They are the same miniatures, just not casted in the green but regular grey colour. The bases are pre-sculpted and are part of the sprues. The models are push fit and don't need glue to be assembled.
They are currently OOP and the only way to get your hands on them is the magazine, we will take the 35 EUR for Underworld warbands into calculation for the savings, but remember you get the STC Dry S for 6,25 EUR as well.
The issue digs deeper into the lore of the Sylvaneth, along with all the information you need to use the Guardians in Age of Sigmar, incl. war scrolls. They can be used as Sylvaneth Forest Stalkers with Warcry, using the rules from the free PDFs (Order #2).
And with this shipment, we receive the second of four premium boni, if you went for the +2 EUR per magazine.
For additional 36 EURs (for the 18 magazines since Krondys) you get the second premium book, covering Gordrakk on Big Teef (who can also be build as Megaboss on Maw-krusha) with a whooping RRP of 110 EUR. So another good saving.
Gordrakk is split across three sprues and sits on a huge 160mm round base, with a few options / variants, that we will take a closer look upon on in the review.
The premium issue cover the detailled build of the model, as well as an more elaborate painting tutorial (not only using the paints you got with this series), the rules and a scenario.
And a further bonus for the subscribers, but not limited to the premium variant, is this miniature from the Commemorative series, Haggok the Gutrippa Boss. The model was formerly exclusive available through the store anniversaries.
A regular small sprue for heroes, with a 40mm round base. That's it. Build as seen. These were around 35 EUR RRP.
And on the back of issue #37, we get a preview on the issues #38 and #39, who will provide us with another batch of 5 Vindictors (which we got in issue #3) and two more shade paints, Reikland Fleshshade and Athonian Camoshade. These will be released in early October and I assume we will receive the next shipment around October 10th.
The six issues, who were rather heavy on the characters, of Age of Sigmar Stormbringer cost us 65,94 EUR (plus another 12 EUR for the premium upgrade) and we got around 220,00 EUR RRP of miniatures and paints (incl. Hoggak) and could add another 110 EUR on top for Gordrakk, if we went premium. That is pretty decent and gave us a discount of 70-75%.
And as usual, you can find an overview on the issues so far over here, along with the detailed unboxings of older shipments as well:
