Blood Bowl – Caledor Dragons Part 2

Well, here we are. I enrolled the High Elves Blood Bowl Team of the Caledor Dragons on the 18 miniatures in 3 month challenge, a project that I painted my Realm of Chaos Beastman warband for back in the day,

Between the four team names (Chrace Lions, Ellyrian Stallions, Lothern Sea Serpents and Caledor Dragons) and six different colour schemes, the Caledor Dragons made the cut, with a jersey picking up the theme of the Dragon Princes of Caledor from the Middlehammer era.

In the 3rd Edition of Blood Bowl, along with the Expansion Death Zone, the teams had profiles on the legendary teams and I mimic that idea for the CBL.

Name: Caledor Dragons
Colours: Green / White / Red
Home Stadium: The Dragon's Nest (located inside a cold volcano, on the third island of the Dragon Spine Mountains, surface: elven lawn)
Management / Owner: Fandir the Eager (Younger brother to Prince Imrik)
Head Coach: Gabryel Caladai
Health (Apothecarius): Hallar Menlui
Cheerleaders: The Vaul Dancers
Motto / Chant: Hear us roar!

Team Honours: Winner of the 2024 Ulthuan qualifiers for CBL, through winning the Tears of Isha-Cup
Hall of Fame: yet to be earned

I started painting by giving the whole team a black primer. Usually I would drybrush the models now with a medium grey (like VGC 72049 Stonewall Grey), to make the details pop, but that wasn't necessary with the models. And just after that step I started taking care of all the tunics / cloth pieces with Citadel Corax White. A great paint for that task. Not too thick, good coverage with 1-2 thin coats.

The armour pieces were painted in Citadel Deathworld Forest, a paint that I used for my Legion Astraman project as well, and gave the bases the regular prime colour in AP Leather Brown.

As I do have some repeating poses, I went on to use the hair colour to give them more variation, with blond, brunette and black hair.

Overall I used these base colours so far;

  • Tunics - Citadel Corax White
  • Green Armour - Citadel Deathworld Forest
  • Skin -
  • Lion Pelt - Vallejo Game Color 72.043 Marrón Bichos / Beasty Brown
  • Lion Pelt inside - P3 Hammerfall Khaki
  • Hair - Citadel Bubonic Brown (Blond), VGC Beasty (Brown), Citadel Night Lords Blue (Black)
  • Silver Armour - AP Plate Mail
  • Golden Armour -
  • Leather -
  • Bases basecolour - Army Painter Leather Brown WP1123

For some reason the P3 paint pots start to fall apart. This is not the first time this is happening. Unfortunately, I didn't wrote down which colour I used for the skin on my tester a while back, but I like the shade of pink it has.

Beyond that, the current temperatures make painting hard, as even with a wet palette the paint dries up fast and it is a rather unpleasant condition to paint in. Yet, I'm working on finishing the first batch of six in time for the first milestone in two weeks.
