FELDHERR Foam Set Organizer for Zombicide – Marvel Zombies

With the recent release of our review on the Marvel Zombies Zombicide game, I wanted to show you a good addition to the box, a foam set organizer by FELDHERR for the core game.

FELDHERR is a German company, located in Berlin and I use their products for about 15 years now. For example during my time as the editor in chief for a bigger wargaming portal, the Feldherr messenger bag was a staple piece, as it hold a lot of "loot" from various shows, and I had it with me on Salute, Crisis and other events, with having various sized bags for skirmish and mid sized projects as well.

But one of the products, I use as well, are the laser-cut inlays for board games, which they offer for various gaming systems, and we covered those for Underworlds on here as well, with the Inlay for Beastgrave, and other starter sets.

And this is available for the Zombicide game - Marvel Zombies, as well, but in a more elaborate way. The set consists out of:

  • 1 foam tray with 43 compartments for miniatures
  • 1 foam tray with 45 compartments for miniatures and game material
  • 2 plastic card holders, each with three compartments for small-format playing cards
  • 1 plastic token holder with five compartments for small-sized game material like tokens, dice, and tiles
  • 1 foam topper
  • 1 flex cross band size L

The package costs 49 EURs and provides you with inlays to store not only the miniatures but the game tokens as well. And as a novelty, it does not only include foam trays but 3d printed items, in this case the card and token holders.

The 3d print is very clean and they used an structured base plate to create a textured underside for the 3d prints. These creates more grip than just a flat print bed, the three 3d printed pieces create an L-shape and corner the game tiles, and are placed in the bottom of the box, but can be taken out for game play.

Ontop of that comes the first foam inlay, with an 8 by 8 grid. Yet a larger area is combined to provide a larger compartment for the larger character boards. Each of the slots stores a single miniature standing up.

And above that we add the second foam tray, with different sized compartments for the zombies, heroes and further bystanders. You don't have to store them in the way I did, you're just fixed with Hulk, most of the others can be swapped around.

The second tray is protected with a foam topper, and this makes the content overlap around 2 cm above the box, but that is not a problem, as the box lid still closes down conveniently, and in addition you have a flex band to secure the entire set.

Conclusion

Among miniature collectors, there are many different opinions on how to store and transport your miniatures. Some use flat foam trays, others prefer custom cut compartments, while others go for magnets. And with tabletop armies, I make that decision based upon the shape and size of the miniatures, because spiky models, like old Chaos or units with pointy spears, might not be the best combination with foam inlays. But with board games and skirmishers, I really like the foam trays for several reasons. With skirmish games, I often use the Mini Bag with two inlays, as this gives me flexibility for Blood Bowl, Warcry or something similar. But with board games, it makes proper use of the boxes themself, and in case of miniature board games, you don't just throw the models in the box with other gaming materials, but want to have something that protects them, especially if you went through the troubles of painting board game miniatures.

Certainly, there is a differenciation between something like Warhammer Underworlds, where you have dynamic and delicate poses, that surely need that protection, but the times where board games just had meeples made from wood or plastic, are past and with the amount of detail on board game miniatures, and thus following more often painted miniatures, I am more than happy with a solution that is tailor made for those games and not something generic, that adds to much volume to the storage solution.

Very happy with the product quality and therefore - as a premiere - we have our first discount code on the blog for your next Feldherr orderby using CHAOS24 you get 5 EUR off on each order of 50 EUR or above - valid until 31.07.2024.
