Age of Sigmar Stormbringer Magazine 08 to 13
Last Thursday the next shipment of the German Issues of Stormbringer by Hachette arrived, issues #08 to 13. We're now with the 6 issue packs which will continue til the end of the run. In case of the subscriptions they are packed differently from the regular newsagent variant.
If you want to take a look back on the last shipment, issues o4 to 07, you can do so here.
The content is bagged seperately and all six issues are bond together, but in one move quickly separated.
And in addition to the six magazines, there are two further inlays for the binder, covering the armies of Order and Ghur.
Issue 08 from march 13th 2024, covers a Lord Imperatant with gryph hound along with a Citadel Colour STC Base M paint brush.
The Lord Imperarant is from the Age of Sigmar Dominion boxed set and still available as part of some of the starter sets, like Extremis. This is likely going to change, as during the Adepticon previews a new edition of Age of Sigmar was announced. This miniature comes in a small sprue along with two bases, a 40mm and 32mm round base for the character and his companion. The sprue covers a small base decoration for both.
Regarding savings, as the Lord Imperatant isn't available as a single product, the Lord Veritant (who comes with a Gryph Hound as well) is the closest comparison at 30 EUR RRP, along with the brush for 6,45 EUR. That's adding up to a saving of 25,46 EUR with this issue. Very appealing.
This model has rules for the use in Warcry.
Regarding the content, the issue focuses heavy on the character providing lore, assembly and painting instructions, along with extended rules for movement as well as claiming mission objectives.
On march 20th 2024, Issue 09 was released, giving another duo of characters, or more precisely a character with a sidekick. In this case the Swampcalla Shaman with Pot-grot.
Just like the Lord Imperatant, this is a character from the AoS Dominion boxed set and still available through some of the starter sets. The model comes in a small sprue, with two bases, a 40mm and 25mm round base, and is currently the only Shaman on foot for the Kruleboyz. There is a second model, Mugruk da Watcha, which was a 2022 Event Exclusive, and the only other shaman is a named character on Killabeak.
Therefore I would use the Weirdnob Shaman as a reference for pricing at 30 EURs, which would provide you with a saving of 19,01 EUR over RRP. And these models have rules for the use in Warcry as well.
As you would expect, the magazine gives you an introduction on the Swampcalla, along with the realm of beasts. And as we now have more magic users in the game, covers this in rules as well.
With Issue 10, which will be released next wednesday on march 27th 2024, and I can see this being a sought after issue with the content from Warhammer Underworlds, it is Xandires Truthseekers.
Usually the Underworlds warbands were casted in pre-tinted plastic, as you can see from our extensive reviews on mutiple seasons, but afterwards usually made available to their main range in regular grey and without the cards. These warbands don't come with regular bases but have pre-sculpted bases within the sprues and usually very dynamic models, in this case three Stormcast Eternals and an Aetherwing companion.
Regarding savings, the models are available as a mail-order only product for 32,50 EUR, giving you quite the advantage for the 10,99 EUR of the magazine.
As Xandires Truthseekers are kind of a special unit within regular Age of Sigmar, you get the warscrolls covering that within this magazine. And these even have rules for use with warcry, freely available as a PDF.
As a subscriber you already have the issues, that will be released in April, like Issue 11, which will be available through the newsagents on April 3rd 2024. This one has a balista from the Kruleboyz in it, called Beast Skewer Killbow.
The model comes in a large sprue with a 90mm oval base and covers the whole war engine including crew. As for saving, quite decent once again, as the model itself costs 30 EUR RRP and you only pay 10,99 EUR with the magazine.
Within this issue you receive more information on the lore, obviously the instructions on the Beast Skewer and in addition the rules for moral within the game.
A bit a head of it's regular release is Issue 12 as well, becoming available on April 10th 2024, and covering the quite interesting Stormstrike Chariot for the Stormcast Eternals.
This one is spread across two medium sized sprues, covering the chariot, incl. the demigryph tows and two crew men, and you even have the option between a bow and a spear. Regards the saving, quite the banger, for 10,99 EUR you receive a model with an RRP of 42,50 EUR!
And the content of the magazine, some depths towards the lore, and addition of special attacks to the rules.
Last magazine of this shipment is Issue 13, which will be released on April 17th 2024, and covers two paints.
The issues covering the citadel paints usually have negative savings, just like this one, with Citadel Colours Base Mephiston Red (3,60 EUR) and Wraithbone (3,60 EUR), adding to 7,20 EUR for a retail of 10,99 EUR. But especially with the subscription this is more than even out with the savings on the other issues.
Within the magazine you will find further lore explaining the world of Age of Sigmar, covering monsters of the realms as well, and puts the new paints to use. This is helpful for me, as I wanted to paint my Stormcast Eternals in red and the Mephiston Red is the perfect base colour for that.
The last page of that issue gives us a teaser on the content of issues 14 and 15, giving us Manskewer Boltboyz and Stormcast Eternals Praetors, in both cases high savings as these kits are at 42,50 EUR each and you only pay 10,99 EUR with each issue.
As a subscription bonus this shipment came with the Heat Changing Mug, and as a wargamer you can always use mugs as they are proper water containers for painting. Interesting to see that they localised it for the German market.
With the six issues the Age of Sigmar Stormbringer binder grows quite a bit, and properly all over the categories. Already have a very solid array to browse through.
The overview on the Stormbringer issues released so far was updated (currently covering issues up to #13). In case you want to look back on older unboxings, you can find Stormbringer Issue 01 to 03 here and Stormbringer Issue 04 to 07 here. The next articles will cover shipment #4 and will not only cover issues number 14 to 19, but the first delivery from the Premium Subscription as well, that we are really looking forward to.
