Necromunda – Ferratonic Silos Part 2

Thanks for the feedback on the first build of the ferratonic silos. I continued working on the mocked-up version. Gluing down some further parts and finishing the walkway among other things.

To close up the half-domes, I needed to cut the inlay. That would actually be a hard thing to do just with a hobby knife, so I'm glad my tools cover a broader variety. The dremel would be too wide, but I have a hobby-saw. I use the one from Army Painter, which seems to be out of production, it was around 10-12 EUR. Warlord Games and GaleForce9 cover a similar product. It is proper way to split the topper into parts without removing too much material doing so.

The half-parts of the ferratonic silos are done. I glued the quarter globes to the half-cylinders and now needed some support beams for a proper fit of the walkways. I decided to go with stripes of sprue. And uses these straight H-sections. Filing of the numbers and cutting away the cross connections, I was almost there. As the sprues are angled, to better slip out of the mould. I used these angled sides to create a flat surface on the round outside. Worked like a charm.

Next up the walkways. I played around a long time with 4 and 5 tiles and which would be best. Highest motivation was to create a good fit for the split of both parts and after a while, I went with 5 wide, because I remembered from my reviews on the Sector Imperialis terrain, that the damaged floor tiles connected seamlessly. This way I could use them combined, I could use them individually and so on.

In addition, I laid out the railing for the walkway. It wouldn't be proper terrain - especially for a skirmisher - if it would create no proper coverage for the models on top.

The sprues from the Sanctum Administratus (used with another build, that will be covered here), provided a lot of the damaged floor tiles that I used with this, along with smaller broken off pieces. I thought it would look interesting if I used these as well. So, I added the smaller bits along with thin side piece, that I broke into and pinned back together with some pieces of wire, to create a more plastic look over the spherical shape of the ends.

I went on with the railing, splitting one of them into 2/3 and 1/3 pieces, drilling open the cables and such, to create a bit variation and cover on both sides of the end. Of course, still ensuring that the two-part build would still interlock and be able to be moved apart. As you can see, I haven't closed the inner sides yet. I'll probably create an inlay, that lays a bit deeper, maybe with a connection for the pipeline sections.

Quite happy with the results so far. Still need to add the stairs. I have 3d printed sections in mind for these, probably the designs by SevenUnited, will give them a go shortly. Beyond that, scale fits, the 90s Necromunda models go very well with that. The foot print is properly, and it is high enough to create small gorges on the table as well, as provide a proper background for some scenic shots.

So, once again thank you very much for the feedback. I'm already on the next build, it is more of place of commerce, but more on that the next time.
