Munchkin Warhammer 40,000 – Faith and Firepower Supplement
The first supplement of cards for Munchkin Warhammer 40.000 is called Faith and Firepower and brings the T'au and Adeptus Sororitas / Sisters of Battle into the game.
I've covered the base set of Munchkin Warhammer 40.000 in Summer, and it covered 168 cards. This new supplement adds another 112 cards to the game. The US box has a RRP of 19.99 USD, the German box supplied by Pegasus Spiele costs 12.95 EUR.
The cards are spread across two decks, split into 68 Door and 44 Treasure cards.
Among the treasure cards you'll find gear from regular Imperial weaponry, like the Bolt Gun, Storm Bolter, Eviscerator, even vehicles like the Valkyre and Immolator tank, and as for the T'au gear, I was impressed by how deep they went into the fluff, a Map of Nicassar, next to a broad selection from the T'au inventory, Ghostkeel Battlesuit, Honour Blade, Dawn Blade or a Kroot Rifle. And it wouldn't be complete and fitting to the tabletop miniatures wargames hobby if you didn't get a level up for a fully painted army!
As for the door cards, a lot of mobs that fit both sides very well, Kroot and Kroot hound, Human guerilla, Vespids, quite a lot of different units from the Sisters of Battle, from the Arco-Flagellants to Canoness and Mistresses, and some new units from the overall Warhammer 40.000 fluff, like Aeldari (Death Jester and Helliarch), some demons and even named characters like Kharn the Betrayer and Nork Deddog.
They even took the time to "fluff" the curses, which add additional chaos to any game of Munchkin. You get - of course among multiple others - Agent Magenta (instead of Orange), you are cursed to buy a new army! (have to change your army), forgot to clean the mould lines (loss of a level) or that your paints dried out.
The deck of door cards includes a full set of armies / races from the starter set (Eldar, Death Guard, Necron, Ork, Tyranid and Ultramarine) and adds four of each of the Adeptus Sororitas / Battle Sisters and T'au.
Steve Jackson Games / Pegasus put a small icon in the bottom center of each card from the supplement, to mark it as from that supplement. In case you want to sort the cards out and just play "vanilla" Munchkin 40k.
Conclusion
Supplements and expansion card decks are a main part of the Munchkin card game product range. So it is no surprise that an IP as strong as Warhammer receives one as well. The cooperation between Steve Jackson Games / Pegasus Spiele and Games Workshop is continued in a great way, because they did an incredible job on the "localisation" of this product. They could have used some generic items and lore from the 40k universe, but on some of these cards, items and units are mentioned, that you'd really had to read the codices and background stories, to think of them. So from that point of view, the supplement deck is much more nerdy, than the 168 cards of the starter kit (as those are spread across 6 armies/races and these 112 cards are more or less only split between two).
Balancing isn't a topic that I cover here often, and I certainly won't start with a fun-chaotic party game like Munchkin. The main point of this is to extend the branded cards and they fulfill that goal in a very convincing way. The name faith and firepower is well fitting, as the Adeptus Sororitas are the militant branch of the Imperial Church and the T'au are all about guns, and very poor on close combat. The only thing that you could argue about, is that another part of the Inquisition, the Ordo Xenos, would be a more "fluffy" counterpart for the alien empire of the T'au.
Price point of this supplement is the same as any other Munchkin supplement of that size. I still have a few of the promo cards and book marks, so feel free to ask me about them if you see me at a Convention.
