Crooked Dice – Paranormal Exterminators Vehicle
Who you gonna call? You get the reference! 😉 Crooked Dice released earlier this year the Paranormal Exterminators Vehicle for their 7 TV Range.
This vehicle is the perfect transportation for the Paranormal Exterminators, that Crooked Dice offers as well as male and female cast. And in 7TV 2nd edition this miniature can be used using the Paranormal Exterminators Programme Guide PDF or cards.
About the kit itself, it is a resin cast with metal accessoires. The price is set at 20 GBP.
A bit of backstory on the PX1, who due to licensing isn't called Ecto-1 from the Ghostbusters Merchandise. In the movies the vehicle used for the Ecto-1 was a 1959 Cadillac professional chassis, built by the Miller-Meteor company. It was an ambulance/hearse combination with the end loader variety.
Crooked Dice packed the PX1 in ziplock bags and those were packed in bubble wrap, to ensure save shipping. The coardboard box has a colour-printed cover. The set consists of the chassis, the roof-top carrier, four metal wheels, the lights and the wing mirrors.
As this is a resin kit, it got a good scrub with lukewarm soap water beforehand, to get rid of any remaining release agent. No filing needed, the parts could be used direct from the kit. As you can see, the casting is solid, without any air intakes and only some minor misalignments, that can easily be taken care of with some putty or liquid green stuff.
There is no real sequence of assembly, but I began with the roof, as the underbody is flat and for that reason easy to build. So just glued the modified roof-top carrior on the back part of the roof and the lights in front and the back of it. They are slightly different, barely recognisable. The wing mirrors can be glued directly in place, but for a more stable connection, I drilled the socket a bit deeper.
After letting the glue set, turn the car upside down and glue the wheels in place. They have a half-disc shape on the back and are easily and stable connected to the underbody of the car.
And that is how the finished Cadillac looks like.
How is the scale on the PX1? Here's a comparison with a few 28mm miniatures, among others Hasslefree and Studio Miniatures. In the second picture the comparison with a transit van by Crooked Dice and one of the crashed pick-ups from Mantics The Walking Dead. In the third the pick up is switched with an 1:43 bburago Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.
Conclusion
Crooked Dice covers a lot of cineastic sets and with the reboot of the Ghostbusters this year, adding the two sets of Paranormal Exterminators and a matching vehicle is a good idea. The PX1 is a proper kit, casting is solid and the price reasonable. The car is not super detailled, but the resemblence is clear and it makes its point.
A small sheet with decals would have been a nice addition. But you can print out the number plates and add them to the kit, if you want to.
Yes there are 1:43 kits of the original ecto 1, but these are at least twice the price - if you are even able to buy them.
