Miniaturwunderland Hamburg 2016 Part 2
The next area - very large and impressive - is a whole airport. And they invested a lot of time for details. As a proper airport, it had a display on landing and departing flights, and even a special visitor from far away.
They put the millenium falcon on there, with all details including the correct flight number YT-1300. Of course, the day and night cycle at the airport was impressive, with the lights and interaction. The airplanes do really land and take off, move to the gates and if they need a refill or assistance by the firefighters, even that. It is a lot to see, and a short video wouldn't come close to the impressive sight it is - you just have to be there and see it with your own eyes.
After waiting for the landing of the Millenium Falcon, it was time for the next part - Knuffingen, a fictional german area.
It was right next to the Harz, the highest northern german mountain range, spreading across several federal states of Germany, covering eastern and western Germany. So we had coal mines, a fair and the Hermannsdenkmal.
A short overview, where we are. You see the Wunderland spreads across three stories of the Speicherstadt building. And they even plan to add France, England and Africa till 2020.
Of course they take a special pride into Hamburg and they did it great. Including the stadium of the oldest Bundesliga team Hamburger SV, the train station, the St. Pauli Piers and even a small version of the Speicherstadt itself (Speicherstadt Inception).
Yet another impressive, large build, with tons of small scenes and little details, that you could spend hours on to discover.
The second last area are the United States, but mostly Las Vegas, Mount Rushmore and native american village. Especially Las Vegas Boulevard was very well done with all the lights, casinos and sights.
And last but not least, Scandinavia, which is - currently - the latest addition to the area. One of the most spectacular sights was the real water in the fjord and a actually swimming ship. And we are not talking about a narrow creek with a bit of water in it, but a large pool sized area, containing incredible amounts of water. All build into this impressive recreation of a northern europe area.
And so far up north, of course you'll find snow.
What can I say? It was an entertaining visit and as a wargamer, who painted miniatures and build terrain himself, you respect a project of this size even more. Hamburg is a beautiful city to visit, with a lot of cultural sights, museums and much more. A visit to this attraction is a must, which is underlined by the fact, that it was visited by at least one citizen of every single country on the planet (not kidding, just in summer, the last country East-Timor could be checked of).
At 13 Euros per tickets it's neither cheap nor expensive, but has a great time-for-money value. Follow the sympathic guys on facebook and be up to date, what they are working on. It is worth your time.
