Merry Christmas, Frohe Weihnacht, Feliz Navidad
Merry Christmas everybody! Frohe Weihnachten zusammen!
I was really looking forward to post first pictures of what i was doing earlier, but there has been an evil thief that stole my time. This thief is called steam and is having a Winter Sale, with incredible bargains and deals. And due to the extreme amount of savings, i felt for some of them.
On Friday i stumbled upon the first day offers and got myself a nice treat,
THQ Collection 24,99 Euro instead of 313,79 Euro
Company of Heroes, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, Darksider, Darksiders II, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II: Retribution, Dawn of War II: Retribution – The Last Standalone, Homefront, Metro 2033, MX vs ATV Reflex, Nexuiz, Red Faction: Armageddon, Red Faction, Red Faction II, Saints Row 2, Saints Row: The Third, Supreme Commander, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, Titan Quest, Titan Quest - Immortal Throne, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine
Hitman Collection 4,99 Euro instead of 29,97 Euro
Hitman I, Hitman Blood Money, Hitman II,
Dungeonbowl 5,24 Euro instead of 14,99 Euro
Later today i bought Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Complete Pack 10,74 Euro instead of 67,41 Euro including all 8 DLCs.
And then of course there was World of Tanks which i really enjoy. So if you´re into pc games, take a look at steam, the offers are amazing.
Who now thinks i didn't get anything done. Well i wasn't as productive tabletop-wise as i hoped, but i started painting, as i promised. And what to start with? Of course something for I-Munda! From the left to the right, the first one is a Mercenary from Privateer Press which is going to be Rogue Trader, beside that is Sly Marbo and a Lictor from the 40k Range (both metal of course) and the Privateer Godwin from Hasslefree, which is although going to be a Rogue Trader.
I own a small airbrush set for some time now, that i got really cheap at a DIY store (they lowered the price 2 times from 150 euros to 100 euros and then to 50 euros, which i bought it for), and it was about time to give it a try.
As i was less than satisfied with the results of painting the warjacks with a brush, as the smooth material doesn't really take color that well, even after a primer, i gave the Airbrush a go. But instead of using the p3 colors, which have thick pigments, which is great for many purposes but not that good for airbrushing i went with Vallejo nato green which can be used unthinned directly from the bottle for airbrushing. And what can i say? Both, airbrush and color matched my expectations. As i primed the other modells black in an earlier step, but not the colossal i tried the green directly on the lead and resin, but the final color was much lighter, so i gave it a try with the black primer by vallejo (hence the slightly strange look on the colossal, which will receive another green layer to make it match with the other warjacks.) It saves so much time and is easy to do, I am really looking forward on my Bolt Action miniatures, especially the tanks.
Since i loaded the airbrush with black, i primed further miniatures (the rest of my Khador miniatures, not in the picture). I like a two color basecoat, as black primer is great for fast painting, but it makes it difficult to see some of the details during painting. For that reason i give them a quick shot of white primer or drybrush the miniatures with white or grey to make the details more visible. I can only recommend that technique!
As the most productive times to work in the hobby room is the evening hours until the night, i needed something to keep me up. Our FLGS although covers merchandise and various imported energy drinks, so i got myself a bundle to keep me going. The Monster Rehab amd Khaos are the regular ones, that you can buy in Germany in other stores, but the Mountain Dew, A&W and the ÜBERMONSTER (yes its called that way) are imported. The last one is kinda expensive (around 9 euro per bottle) but its christmas and i am curious upon the taste.
After a not so pleasent contact with the Crunk Juice, i have to say these are quite tasty, especially the A&W cream soda and fanta strawberry (Not in the picture).
With all that energy (not all of the drinks, i rationated them over the first week) i spend one night converting plastic chaos cultists from the latest 40k Starter Set and bringing the plastic nurgle champion into the 41th century. The will be used as chaos militia in Necromunda / Inq28.
In the first picture you see the spoken nurgle champion with a head and weapon swap, the first and fourth miniature weren't modified. The third is a conversion of the 4th with a weapon (regular close combat cultist weapon) and head swap (flagellant sprue).
The cultists are great miniatures, the only problem, they don't have that many poses and half of them is just a mirrored version of the other half. So i had a motivation to bring a little bit more variety into the minis.
Lets start with the gunners, just simple head swaps.
The close combat cultists had more "operations", mainly head and weapon swaps among them and some of the weapons and heads are again from the flagellant sprue, which has some great bitz for converting evil miniatures.
And there were of course the heavy weapon guys, the first one is the regular one. I like the design and the very cool pose, so i left him as he is. The flamer received the helmet from the nurgle champion and on the last one, i changed both arms and the head, he is going to be an inquisitional henchmen. The inspiration came from this blog - Legion of Plastic.
They still need some touching up with liquid putty to fix the areas around the head, but that will be done in the next days.
That's not all so far, but as much as i want to show you currently, there is going to be more in the next days after christmas. I am off to the christmas diner with my family and wish you some great holidays!
