Heer46 SdKfz 247 Ausf. B
This will be released at the Crisis this weekend, but i am lucky enough, to already have one here for an unboxing - the SdKfz 247 Ausf. B by Heer 46.
The SdKfz 247 or schwerer geländegängiger gepanzerter Personenkraftwagen ("Heavy All-Terrain Armoured Motor Vehicle") how its official name was, is seen here as the Ausführung B, which basicly means it is the four-wheeled variant, of which only 58 units were build. Heer46 offers this vehicles as a resin kit in 1/56 scale or 28mm. The price is 21 Euro.
The kit consists of a solid resin body, four wheels, a tarp roof and two pieces of stowage. The casting is crisp, without holes or impurities. No resin flash, just a small mold line on the back had to be removed. So very little work to begin from, perfect condition for a resin kit.
In the first step i assembled the wheels to the body. You can do that by using superglue, i tend to mix liquid green stuff in there and check that the wheels are aligned. Once dryed you could file the the tyres down a bit, to show the weight of the armoured vehicle on the tyres. A nice detail are the sculpted axes, and not just pins as they tend to be one some other resin kits.
Let the kit dry standing up, so the wheels align with the ground. You can see the interior, which covers two benches for the up to 6 man crew. All that's left to assemble is the optional roof and the stowage. I went with the tent and positioned it on wheelhouse.
The vehicle is 28mm or 1:56 scale, and fits good with the currently small range of infantry miniatures from Heer46, as well as the Bolt Action range by Warlord Games (as i used on of the older miniatures, it works with the Perry Miniatures World War 2 range fine as well).
A small comparison with the SdKfz 251 and the Daimler AC Mk I (both Warlord Games), that took care of a similar role as the SdKfz 247 (Well, the Dingo or Humber would be a more appropriate comparison, but you get the idea).
And the finished assembled kit, in a 360° view, in the top row open topped, and below with the roof attached.
Conclusion
I already assembled a few Heer46 1:100 or 15mm tanks and this is my first 28mm kit by them. I have to admit, it is a clean cast with proper details. At 21 Euros it is fairly priced, if you compare it with Blitzkrieg Miniatures (scout tanks are around 18 GBP) or Warlord Games (the Daimler is 19 GBP) resin kits.
As the SdKfz 247 Ausf. B is a rarity with its 58 units, there are no rules for it, for example for Bolt Action. If you want to use it, i would recommend you play it with the rules of the SdKfz 250/1 on page 64 of the Armies of Germany supplement and reduce the costs by 15 pts as it is unarmed. Otherwise you could use it as a Heavy Field Car as stated on page 66 of the same book.
